and I are firm believers that prayer is the key to the success and
effectiveness of any series of revival meetings. Not only is
there the blessing of His hearing and answering our prayers, but also there
is the faith, expectation, and excitement that is produced in the hearts of
God’s people when they pray.
In
the event that you have not yet developed a prayer strategy for the upcoming
meetings, I would like to take just a moment and share a few simple ideas
which I trust will be helpful to you.
Beginning
two months prior to our arrival, during your Sunday morning service prayer
time, include the upcoming special meetings.
A
month prior to the revival, ask for volunteers to host weekly one hour
prayer meetings in their homes. During these times people could join
together to focus on prayer for unsaved family members, friends, and a
mighty move of God in the meetings.
Several
weeks prior to the meetings, ask leaders of various ministries to lead the
congregation in prayer. The emphasis would be for their particular
department to be blessed during the revival.
A
“half night of prayer” the Friday or Saturday prior to the meetings,
offers people an extended period of time to wait upon the Lord.
Beginning at 6:00 pm and concluding at 10:00 pm has worked out well in many
situations. Having a prayer list made out in advance will be a great help to
those who attend. Concluding with a time of praise and worship is always a
blessing. Also, having some soft instrumental worship music playing in the
background creates a wonderful atmosphere for people to seek the Lord.
Once
the meetings begin on the scheduled date, I will personally challenge the
people who are able, to come early each night for a time of prayer before
the evening meetings. “If my people, who are called by my name, will
humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways,
then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their
land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
